Data Reporting

Researchers/collaborators that submit samples for 14C analyses will get their data back and the data can be used for individual publications. We acknowledge that the principal investigator (PI) of each sample set is the steward of their research data but as a network, we will also have the capacity to write syntheses papers based on the data analyzed through the network, with the first synthesis paper planned for the end of 2023 and future papers occurring bi-annually. We also believe that to best advance science, research data should follow the FAIR principles, which are (1) the data is Findable; (2) Accessible; (3) Interoperable; and (4) Reusable.

To manage and share data with the individuals that submit samples, we will use Open Science Framework (OSF), which supports the ability to embargo data and gives datasets their own unique URLs. Access to experiment data will be granted only to individuals designated as project collaborators by the PI. The PI can also send/receive and share materials as they deem appropriate through their preferred electronic delivery mechanisms. DOIs can also be generated though OSF when data is made public and these DOIs may be cited and accessed by the public.

In order to gauge the growth of this network over time, we also ask PIs to forward any publications from this network to us (bctn@yale.edu) by the end of the year after the publication was released. This includes manuscript publications, Ph.D. and masters’ theses, talks, books, etc.
